Quepos is less than 160 Kilometers (100 miles) from San José, on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica

The drive from the San Jose airport (Juan Santamaria International Airport) to Quepos/Manuel Antonio will take about 2 hours and 15 minutes and is fully paved with the new highway in place. We suggest exchanging at least $5 US dollars into Costa Rican colones for the tolls on the highway.

Ask the rental car agent to send you off in the right direction.  Drive defensively and be aware when two lanes become one, “CEDA” means “Yield”.

From the Airport, you will get on the Pan American Highway (Hwy. #1) going north, and follow the signs to San Ramon; pass a Dos Pinos factory and a Puntarenas Ferry sign – it is about 12 Kms.`

You will pass signs for La Garita, Sarchi, RECOPE fuel storage tanks, and then see a sign for “ATENAS 14 KM”. This is where you turn right and curve around, following the signs to Quepos / Jaco.

YOU WILL NOW FOLLOW SIGNS TO THE CALDERA HIGHWAY, MERGING WITH IT AT THE “LA GARITA” TURNOFF.  Drive 5 km, at the soccer field turn left, keep driving 8 km, before the tunnel make left you will now enter “The new Caldera Highway”.

You will pass through a number of toll stations and just before you get to the Jaco / Costanera exit, you will go through a Blue Pay station and pay the toll. Just past this toll station, you will exit off Hwy. # 27 by turning left and entering on to the Costanera highway.  As you pass through the outskirts of Jaco and are on the north side, will cross over the Tarcoles River Bridge – there are usually a few cars parked before/after the bridge since it is a popular viewing point for the crocodiles lurking in and around the river. This is a great place to stop, also some great shops.  As you are driving though Jaco, you will pass Playa Hermosa – a famous surfing beach. It is on the right hand side of the road …a nice place to stop for lunch.

The road travels past rice fields and African Palm groves as it approaches Parrita.

At Quepos, you will come to a Y intersection. Veer left.  You will see the sign at this Y saying left to Dominical and right to Quepos.

Be sure to go left, otherwise you will go through the town of Quepos and it is longer that way; unless you want to visit the lovely beach town of Quepos and have lunch.

Keep following the newly completed Costanera Highway, You will pass the Hospital and then Quepos local Airport.

You will pass the first river/bridge “Naranjo”.  You will pass several villages.  The  second bridge/river “Savegre”.

Finca El Paraiso, is about 1 1/2 KM from Rio Savegre.  Follow the sign to Pasito, you will see on your Right, an Orange Bldg with a Blue roof (“Pulperia”)  a convenient store – 35 ft South on the left is a gravel entrance road, school on the right and community center on the left, go straight past soccer field, follow curve till the sign “El Paraiso Ocean View Properties” turn left, follow the curve to the bridge and up to gate.

Gate will be locked. Please call ahead.
